SERVICE SCOPE & PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES

Clear support. Clear boundaries.

Miniflora provides practical SEND Family Navigation. We help parents and carers organise, prepare, track, follow up and work through the practical tasks around their child’s support.

We are clear about what sits within our role and when another professional or service is needed.

What Miniflora can help with

  • organising SEND-related information
  • identifying practical next steps
  • creating Family Maps and Action Plans
  • tracking referrals, appointments and outstanding actions
  • preparing for school, health or other professional meetings
  • helping parents organise concerns and questions
  • practical SEND-related admin support
  • helping parents prepare routine emails or communications for their own review and approval
  • childcare and backup-care planning
  • work and study coordination
  • helping families understand which type of service may be appropriate
  • signposting to relevant services
  • making referrals where appropriate and where the parent has agreed
  • follow-up support

Miniflora’s role is to help families make sense of what is happening and turn it into manageable practical actions.

What sits outside our role

Miniflora does not provide:

  • medical advice
  • diagnosis
  • clinical assessment
  • therapy or counselling
  • occupational therapy assessment or treatment
  • speech and language therapy
  • Educational Psychology assessment
  • legal advice or legal representation
  • formal SEND-law advice
  • statutory SEND decision-making
  • decisions about benefit entitlement
  • emergency or crisis services
  • regulated childcare
  • safeguarding investigations
  • professional reports pretending to come from a regulated practitioner

Miniflora will never present Family Navigation as a replacement for appropriately qualified or regulated professionals.

Miniflora is not an emergency service

Miniflora does not provide emergency medical, mental-health, safeguarding or childcare responses.

If someone is in immediate danger, call 999 or contact the appropriate emergency service.

Do not wait for a Miniflora response in an emergency.

When another service is needed

Some situations need specialist professional advice or assessment. When something falls outside Miniflora’s role, we will explain this and help the family identify an appropriate next step where possible.

Legal or EHCP dispute

Signpost to an appropriate SEND advice or legal service.

Medical or developmental concern

Signpost back to the GP, paediatrician or relevant health professional.

Sensory or functional difficulties

An occupational therapy professional may be appropriate.

Communication difficulties

Speech and Language Therapy may be appropriate.

Emotional or mental-health needs

A qualified therapist, counsellor or health service may be appropriate.

Immediate risk or emergency

Contact the appropriate emergency or safeguarding service.

Miniflora may continue supporting the practical organisation around these situations, but does not take over the specialist professional role.

The difference between navigation and professional advice

Miniflora may: Help a parent prepare questions for a paediatric appointment.

Miniflora will not: Interpret medical results or diagnose a condition.

Miniflora may: Help organise evidence for a school meeting.

Miniflora will not: Provide legal advice about what a school must do.

Miniflora may: Help identify registered childcare options.

Miniflora will not: Guarantee a provider’s availability or provide childcare itself.

Miniflora may: Help prepare a routine follow-up email.

Miniflora will not: Pretend to speak as a solicitor, clinician, teacher or statutory professional.

Families remain in control

Miniflora can help parents understand options and organise possible next steps, but decisions remain with the parent or carer unless another professional or statutory body is legally responsible for the decision.

Parents are encouraged to review any communication, action plan or draft before it is used or sent.

Confidentiality and safeguarding

Information shared with Miniflora is treated confidentially and handled in line with our Privacy Notice and data-handling procedures.

Confidentiality may need to be limited where there is a serious safeguarding concern, an immediate risk of harm or another legal requirement to share information.

Working alongside professionals

Miniflora may work with or signpost families to independent professionals and organisations where specialist input is needed.

Any regulated professional remains responsible for their own professional advice, assessment, registration, insurance and scope of practice.

A referral or introduction by Miniflora does not mean that Miniflora controls or guarantees another provider’s service.

Not sure whether Miniflora can help?

You can still contact us. We will explain whether your situation sits within Miniflora’s role and, where appropriate, help identify another route.
